Winery Aims for a Mobile Digital Beverage

A winery in Northern California has utilized a static site for its digital presence for years. Their CTO decided it was time to bring the site to the forefront of web technology while still having the ability to easily add and edit content without the assistance of the web developer. The first of their wine brands to implement a CMS is Murphy-Goode. As a site redesign was also part of this project, responsive web design was decided to play a part in the final designs. Mobile and desktop browsers load specially designed layouts (and for retina displays, images as well) while the underlying HTML markup remains identical.

Under the Hood

Murphy-Goode Winery is built in Drupal. As responsive web design was a site requirement, CSS media queries monitors browser width and screen pixel ratio to determine if the site should render the mobile version or the full desktop experience. Sass and the Compass CSS Authoring Framework were used to easily maintain CSS code for the site.
